As a design-build contractor, Globaltech was responsible for designing and constructing the rehabilitation of a lime softening treatment unit at the Fort Pierce Utilities Authority (FPUA) Lime Softening Plant.
Softener No. 2 was nearly 35 years old and was in need of significant rehabilitation. The 10 MGD softener consists of steel-skirt Accelator internals located in a circular steel tank.
The project consisted of replacing the following Accelator components:
The steel rehabilitation work consisted of repairing deteriorated portions of the steel structures followed by abrasive blasting and coating with an NSF 61 epoxy. All blasting and painting operations were tented to protect adjacent facilities.
In addition to the softener rehabilitation work other work included replacing all the chemical and water lines feed the softener, blasting and smoothing the floor of the softener, installation of a concrete trench for running chemical lines, constructing new recirculation and blowdown pump stations, new electrical and instrumentation, and significant plate-reinforcing in the vicinity of a new 4’ square exterior opening.
The project is currently under construction.
