CSID Well 2 Repower

Globaltech completed a project to upgrade the electrical and control systems for Raw Water Wells No. 2. The well was previously powered by a single, oversized breaker in PP-1, located in the High Service Pump (HSP) Building. To improve reliability, Well #2 was repowered from a separate electrical service distributed by 40-MCC-1-1, located in the Reverse Osmosis (RO) Building, where a new breaker was furnished and installed.

The existing control panel equipment at Well #2 was replaced with a new control panel featuring a Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) for operational flexibility and a new Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) to meet current standards. Additionally, three existing four 2-inch below-grade conduits were extended to connect the new control panel to 40-MCC-1-1 in the RO Building. Power, fiber optic, and communication wiring were installed within two extended conduits. SCADA and PLC programming were also updated to ensure seamless operation and integration with the new system.

Project Achievements / Benefits

The new VFD enhances energy efficiency by allowing the pump to operate at variable speeds, reducing energy consumption during low-demand periods and increasing operational flexibility. It also improves system longevity with smoother starts and stops that reduce wear on the motor and components. Precise speed control optimizes flow rates, helping the system match real-time demand and handle varying needs without interruptions. The VFD also offers cost savings through lower energy and maintenance expenses. Advanced fault detection minimizes downtime by reducing unexpected failures, while lower energy usage contributes to a smaller carbon footprint, providing environmental benefits.
