Globaltech was tasked with providing miscellaneous upgrades to opterations and equipment at PBCWUD’s Water Treatment Plant (WTP) No.’s 2, 3, 8, and 9 in Palm Beach County, Florida. The plants desired to upgrade equipment to improve the treatment process and provide additional redundancy.

The improvements at WTP 9 included the installation of a new 30 MGD raw water sand strainer, which included the relocation of existing 36” ductile iron piping both above and below ground while working around existing equipment and keeping the plant operational. Additionally, a 65’ x 35’ steel canopy was constructed over an existing membrane cleaning system. The sodium hydroxide system piping was also completely replaced using welded HDPE piping and PFA tube.

The improvements at WTP 3 included the relocation of existing sodium hydroxide injection points, working closely with the Florida Department of Health for permit approval. Additionally, 700 linear feet of concrete trench covers were replaced with lighter fiberglass covers. Ductile iron piping on the high service pumps station was also replaced due to age. An acid dilution raw  water feed line was installed on existing 42” ductile iron pipe.

The improvements at WTP 2 and 8 included installation of an anion exchange resin transfer pump on top of the MIEX basin, and replacement of aged valve on the existing anion exchange vessels.

New electrical improvements included modifications to existing RIO panels. All modifications were done in compliance with current regulations, codes, and permitting requirements.
