The Florida Keys Aqueduct Authority’s Dean Water Treatment Plant needed to replace its 25-year-old lime sludge dewatering vacuum filter without disturbing the existing structure in which it was housed. Globaltech was selected as a design-build company to perform the project.
To prepare for the installation, Globaltech dismantled and removed the existing walkway platforms, vacuum filter tank and drum assembly, and vacuum pump, blower, and receiving tank. Using a crane and heavy duty skates and jacks, the new vacuum filter was hoisted into the second floor opening and rolled into place. The existing chute was modified to accommodate the new equipment dimensions; modifications were made to the electrical and control panel to match the newer technology.
Project Achievements / Benefits
- Globaltech procured the new vacuum filter ahead of schedule and installed it with no disruptions to the plant operation.
- The project was fast-tracked to comply with the facility’s lime solids storage capacity.
